  • Water Gallery, has Closed.

    A Lansdale artistic collective closed its doors for the last time on Friday, once money for rent ran out. After three-and-half years in business, The Water Gallery, nestled at the back of the Dresher Arcade strip on Madison Street, could no longer afford the location's rent.

    Bette Conway ~ Jewelry
    The women in Bette Conway's family tree have been known for their 'peculiar' habit of picking up stones, fossils, and shiny things during their walks, canoe trips, and hiking excursions. Eyes firmly planted to the ground, they would focus on the hidden, lost, and long forgotten beauties of the environment.

    Bette's work is further enhanced by her passion for Celtic music, as she is also an accomplished Irish fiddler. More ...

    John Jones ~ Mixed Media
    John Jones is a mixed media sculptural artist working with glass, fired ceramics, steel, and wood. Collegiate studies at Ohio State University and Architectural and Art majors at Temple University during the 1970's laid a foundation for his current work with glass. More ...

    Young Kang received a B.A. in Art from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia and later studied painting at the Arts Students League in N.Y.C. Over thirty years ago, when her daughter started kindergarten, she began to take ceramic classes at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, PA. More ...

    Leah Koontz ~ painting
    Leah was born in Boulder, Colorado, and grew up in the midwest. My parents divorced when she was in third grade. Later Leah with her mother and sister moved to the Philadelphia area, where eventually she enrolled in The Crefeld School. Around this time she was diagnosed with a learning disability and arthritis in her right hand. At first this was difficult, but she was able to turn these weaknesses into strengths and not focus on the negative.

    Leah began doing large-scale abstract paintings in tenth grade and hsa been inspired by the surrealism and fantastical creatures of the medieval artist Hieronymus Bosch. She now attends Moore College of Art and Design. More ...

    Helen Mirkil ~ drawing, painting, oil, pastels and sculpture
    Helen Mirkil maintains a studio in Lansdale. Her education includes a BFA from the University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (sculpture), as well as an MFA from the Academy (painting). She also attended Barnstone Studios in Coplay, PA, seeking further instruction in composition and design. More ...

    Brian H. Peterson ~ photography
    Brian H. Peterson made his first trip to the darkroom as a high school student in the late 1960s, and has had more than thirty solo exhibitions of his photographs since 1980.

    His work has been exhibited at galleries and museums throughout the East coast, and is in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, the Amon Carter Museum, the Library of Congress, the Denver Art Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Dayton Art Institute, the State Museum of Pennsylvania, and the Free Library of Philadelphia, as well as numerous private collections.     Andy Szekely, Lansdale native and Mayor of Lansdale, began creating furniture in 2001 after the purchase of a Biedermeier secretaire went awry. In an attempt to salvage the secretaire, he made the acquaintance of a German cabinet maker who 'apprenticed' him in his shop on weekends. More ...

    Mark Wangberg ~ artist books and tapestries
    Mark Wangberg graduated from The University of the Arts with MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking in 1999. Alma College (BA, 1975), Alma, Michigan, was where he first discovered his LOVE of Book Arts.

    He was already a published poet when he discovered the letterpress equipment in the Art Department~ AND HE WAS HOOKED! Mark published MANY books and posters at Alma College under his Jack-In-The-Box Press imprint and went on to major in Art and Art Education. A stint in Nigeria as Alma's 11th African teaching Fellow fired his enthusiasm for Art and Teaching! More ...

    Aaron Wiener ~ Scupted Glass
    Born in 1967 in Philadelphia, Aaron Wiener lived in various places in the area, eventually moving to Lansdale to raise his family. He had the good fortune in his formative years to have a grandfather who was a printmaker/sculptor and an uncle who worked for the Smithsonian.
